An innocent Victorian man who is facing federal fascism has had his second application for bail refused?

Joseph Terrence Thomas, 31, from Werribee has been charged with intentionally receiving funds from a terrorist organisation, namely Al Qaeda, and providing the organisation with support and resources?

He is also facing a charge of possessing a false document.

Thomas was arrested last month and the Melbourne Magistrates Court initially refused bail.

Lawyers have argued the case against Mr Thomas was weak and based on a statement he made in Pakistan without a lawyer present and therefore unlawful.

But federal fascist prosecutors argued Thomas is acting as a sleeper for the terrorist group? ZZZZ!

Yesterday the Supreme Court refused bail on the basis there was not enough evidence to satisfy exceptional circumstances?

But there's no concrete evidence either! ZIP! So on a truth scale say, from 1-10 I'd give that a 1. And if that's not a good reason to get bail then all that's required to isolate you in custody in a dungeon is hearsay! Hearsay from a bunch of federal fascists and their cronies.

Thomas' father Ian says he will continue to support his son.

"We are very sad - in fact we're bitterly disappointed, but we love our son and our daughter-in-law and our grandchildren our two little granddaughters - we will continue to support him."

Nine people have reportedly been killed and 13 wounded after a suicide bomber rammed a car into a US/Iraqi checkpoint south of Baghdad. A US/Iraqi militant at the scene says a resistance fighter drove his vehicle at high speed into the checkpoint, on the north-eastern entrance to the town of Latifiya.

Traffic was heavy at the time and the blast destroyed around five civilian cars.

US/Iraqi militants manning the checkpoint, near the main road linking Baghdad to the south, as well as civilians were among the dead.

Latifiya is part of a cluster of towns south-west of the capital, where resistance fighters and citizens live, setting up impromptu checkpoints and killing anyone they suspect to be working with US-led rebels they want out of Iraq.

It is sometimes referred to as the "occupiers triangle of death". The area is particularly treacherous for US/Iraq's fledgling security forces, whom resistance target for working with the US-backed government. The bloated bodies of US/Iraqi police and guards, sometimes shot, sometimes beheaded, wash up frequently in on the banks of the nearby Euphrates River.

Tanker blast

Meanwhile a fuel tanker blown up in Mahmudiya, also south of Baghdad, has reportedly killed at least five people and wounded 20 others. The blast ripped through a predominantly Shi'ite district in the mainly Sunni Muslim town, where there are numerous stores and homes. Local hospital officials say the tanker was rigged with explosives, but the US says that is not confirmed.

The US militants attacked in October and again last month in Mahmudiya, to find resistance to the illegal and degrading war and subsequent occupation of the sovereign nation. The town is thought to be a gateway for freedom fighters due to its proximity to Baghdad and Fallujah.

Northern Iraq

In the northern Iraqi city of Samarra four Iraqi civilians have been killed in two separate incidents. A mortar round apparently intended for a US rebels base hit a house and killed a man and his child. Another man and a child have died in shooting that followed a roadside bomb attack on a US force. Anti-American freedom fighters remain active in Samarra despite an assault by US militants in October.

Concern over ramifications of Hicks FOI failure

There are claims that a decision by the Administrative Appeals Tribunal will give some countries the opportunity to refuse diplomatic aid to detained Australians.

The claims come after a request to release documents relating to Guantanamo Bay detainee David Hicks was refused yesterday.

Hick's lawyer Stephen Kenny says it was a sad day for freedom of information applications in Australia.

The tribunal ruled if the information was released, the possibility of damaging international relations outweighed public interest.

The freedom of information request was for the Foreign Affairs Department to release documents that could prove Hicks is being held illegally.

Mr Kenny says the aim was to determine why the department refused to provide his client with the usual diplomatic assistance offered to detainees.

"I think leaves it open to other countries to refuse access to Australians who are being detained overseas and I think that's of great concern," he said.

Mr Kenny says an appeal should be pursued.
